Because of the survey the BHF have released a ‘Doubt Kills’ campaign, urging people never to delay in contacting 999 if they are experiencing chest discomfort. Medical director of the BHF, Peter Weissberg, says the statistics have become worrying and, miracles if British reserve and stoicism take into account the reluctance to call 999 actually in the most significant of emergencies. Weissberg says every second counts during a coronary attack, and the quicker you contact 999 the greater the opportunity of survival.
